In recent years, many dental hygienist and dental assisting constituent
and component organizations have purchased thousands of books from
DMD House at steep discounts and offered them for resale to their
members at the full list price. The resulting profit has enabled
these associations to supplement their budgets, thus keeping dues
low and membership levels high. (This process has also enabled their
members to conveniently purchase DMD House books which are not sold
in stores.) Our policy in the past has been to require payment in
advance on all orders in addition to asking customers to cover shipping
charges. As you will see when you read further, we have decided
on a new approach to our book marketing process through professional
societies and associations—it's called CONSIGNMENT SALES AND
FREE SHIPPING TO YOU!
Here's how simple and easy
it is to raise funds for your organization, step
by step:
Step 1: Place your sample consignment order
Send DMD House your organization's check in the amount of just $50
and receive two sample copies each of all of the following items:
Chicken Soup for the Dental Soul (list price $12.95), Love Is the
Best Medicine® for Dental Patients and the Dental Team (list
price $14.95), the just-published Love Is the Best Medicine®
Dental mini-book 4-pack (list price $14.85) plus individual mini-books,
The Heart of Dentistry, It's All About Smiles, Kids at the Dental
Office, and We Care! (list price $4.95 each)—a total of 14
books and 4-packs representing a list price value of more than $125.
And shipping is free! (Only one sample order per organization, please!)
If your organization sells a minimum of 2 cases of books, you may
take a credit of $50 on your final payment which means the $125
sample order is FREE! Place your sample order now by completing
the Sample Consignment Order Form and sending it to DMD House along
with your payment.
Step 2: Place your full consignment order
To the best of your ability, estimate how many copies of our books
your organization can sell. Please round off your estimates to full
case lots. (Some organizations take orders—including paid
orders—from members and prospective customers in advance.)
Print out and fill in the Full Consignment Order Form, sign it,
and fax or mail it to DMD House. As discussed below, you have 90
days in which to sell your books from the time your shipment arrives
until you make payment to DMD House! As a courtesy, a pro forma
invoice will be sent to you immediately after your order is filled.
This is the amount your organization will owe DMD House should all
of the inventory be sold.
Step 3: Inventory reduction sale
When considering your order, be sure to note that we're having an
INVENTORY REDUCTION SALE of last year's top book, Love Is the Best
Medicine® for Dental Patients and the Dental Team to make room
in the warehouse for 100,000 of our four new mini-books. Although
the list price is $14.95, we're selling Love Is the Best Medicine®
for only $6.25 apiece through April 30, 2003.
Step 4: Free one-way shipping to you
We will provide free UPS Ground shipping to your organization on
ALL full case orders received between now and March 30, 2003. All
we ask is that your organization pay for return shipping via UPS
Ground on any books not sold! This is our only insurance that you
will be conservative in your estimate of what you can sell in your
fundraising activity.
Step 5: Sell books to your members
While many organizations sell our books at the list price during
their fundraising events, others add a dollar or two to the list
price on each item to cover the normal DMD House single item shipping
charge of $4.00.
Step 6: Sell books to the dental practices
where your members work
Some organizations have been quite successful in selling large numbers
of books—often full case lots—to individual dental offices
where their members work. At that rate, it doesn't take long to
sell dozens of cases! An added bonus is that the dental hygienist
or dental assistant often receives—as a gift—one or
more of the books purchased by the practice. That's another big
incentive to participate in this program!
Step 7: Calculate amount owed and submit payment by check or money
order to DMD House covering all books sold within 90 days of receipt
of shipment
The amount owed will be based on the quantity of each title actually
sold. To initiate the return process, print out and complete the
Consignment Return Request Form listing any unsold inventory and
fax or mail it to DMD House. We will immediately prepare a final
invoice for your organization based on the Group Wholesale Price
List. All remittances should be made by check or money order payable
to DMD House.
Step 8: Return unsold books to DMD House
via UPS ground
Securely pack any unsold books in stout cardboard cartons and ship
them (prepaid) to DMD House in Murrieta, California via UPS Ground.
Be sure to retain the tracking numbers in the unlikely event one
or more cases are lost in transit since the shipper is liable for
settling non-delivery claims with UPS. As explained above, the shipping
cost on any returned books is borne by the association, not DMD
House. DMD House will not accept any returns shipped COD.
